Luang Prabang & Vang Vieng

Eh bien, ça fait longtemps sans nouvelles! Nous ne sommes restés que 3 jours à Luang Prabang, pas vraiment trop de touristes mais on sent que l'infrastructure est là et ça nous gène. On a vraiment profité pour voir de beaux temples, faire des achats locaux (papier, tissus), faire un massage de pied (youpi!), et voir des cascades d'eau magnifiques (différentes du Montana) où j'ai fait le singe... et puis en route pour Vang Vieng par une route sinueuse de montagne magnifique mais qui faisait peur à chaque virage!!!

Sur la route principale qui fait le Laos du nord au sud on a des vaches à chaque virage... c'est assez folklorique (notre bus a failli en tué une...)

Vang Vieng et sa réputation de fétarde dans toute l'Asie du Sud-Est nous a énormément plu. Pourquoi? parce qu'on vit le jour et pas la nuit! Du coup on a évité les hordes d'anglais bourrés. Une journée de kayak de 20km sur la rivière Nam Song, avec visite de grottes (une traversée par une rivière, nous étions sur des chambres à air..), 45 km de VTT parmi des paysages fantastiques (karst) et des petits villages sans touristes. Et un bungalow avec vue sur la rivière, super relaxant (merci Céline!). Bref on a adoré! En plus on a pu observer la vie des locaux, basée principalement sur la rivière. Ca glande beaucoup dans le coin (enfin partout au Laos), surtout les mecs, mais tout le monde a l'air heureux, surtout les enfants des villages qui nous courent après avec de grands sourires et plein de "Sa Bai dee" (bonjour).

Nous décidons à ce point de ne pas nous rendre au Cambodge mais de continuer dans le sud du Laos!. Bus de nuit, différent du VIP de Thailande: un lit pas large et pas long pour des grands européens! Et arrivée à Pakse dans le sud.

Well, here we are again in front of the computer, it's been a while!We stayed 3 days in Luang Prabang: we enjoyed the sunset on the Mekong, the old temples, local craft, and some amazing waterfalls (different from Bozeman) where I enjoyed the monkey rope! Even though there are not that many tourists at that time of the year, the tourism infrastructure is too present for us. Therefore we took the road 13 to Vang Vieng.

The road... scary but amazingly beautiful in the mountains. There are cows wandering along each curve. Our bus almost killed one.

We loved Vang Vieng as we live during the day and not at night, unlike most young tourists there who just come to drink all night long and go tubing (an excuse to get more drunk on the river bars) during the day.

We found a lovely bungalow facing the Nam Song river and went on a 20 km kayaking trip (just the two of us), visited some caves (tubing inside one), did a 45 km biking trip among amazing landscapes (Karst formations) and pretty villages with no tourists. It was great! we were exhausted after 2 intense days! This place was nice to observe how local people live by the river. They don't do much here (or anywhere in Laos! especially the men!) but they are happy! Especially the kids who love running after us with their big smiles and their Sa Bai Dee (hello).

At that point we decided to ditch Cambodia from our itinerary and move to southern Laos (for various reasons). We took a VIP (quite different from the VIP standards of Thailand..) night bus= one bed for two, but two Laos size people, not the big Europeans that we are!!! And here we are in Pakse, southern Laos.
